Historical Context and the Fraternal Experience

The mysterious literature and objects associated with fraternal orders have attracted members and non- members alike. However, a wealth of knowledge lies beyond the patchwork of sensational lore. Academic interest in these organizations has increased for several decades, emphasizing their critical social and cultural influence. How can members interpret this history?

Using examples curated from the collection of the Oakland Scottish Rite, historian Adam Kendall will examine the fascination with Masonic material culture and provide tools for exploring them within a broader historical context.
